Growing up in Kakuma, the only activity we used to enjoy most was playing football," reminisces Ngong, reflecting on his childhood filled with endless hours of football matches with friends and family. Football was not just a game for Ngong; it was a way of life, a source of joy and solace amidst the challenges of refugee life

 Pursuing Dreams: From Kakuma to Nairobi

When Ngong's family relocated to Nairobi, his passion for football only intensified. Joining the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) Football Academy in Githurai, Nairobi, provided Ngong with the platform to hone his skills and elevate his game to new heights

Back in Kakuma, Ngong’s talent did not go unnoticed. He quickly rose through the ranks, from playing for his local club, BSB FC, to joining Legend FC in the Kakuma Premier League. His exceptional talent caught the attention of scouts, leading to his inclusion in Kakuma United FC, the premier team in the camp

 Seizing Opportunities: A Path to Professionalism

Ngong's journey took a significant leap forward when he joined Murang'a Seal, a team competing in the National Super League. His remarkable performance on the field attracted the attention of Tusker Youth FC, a renowned football club in Kenya. Ngong's dream of playing professionally was finally becoming a reality.In a momentous turn of events, Ngong had the opportunity to return to his homeland, South Sudan, to represent El Meriekh Bentiu in the prestigious South Sudan Cup. Despite the team's loss in the semi-finals, Ngong's stellar performance, including scoring two goals, showcased his talent on a national stage“I urge my fellow youths to focus on what they love doing and to never give up,” encourages Ngong, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and dedication in pursuing one’s dreams. For Ngong, football is not just a sport; it is a vehicle for change and a source of hope for a brighter future. At the tender age of 19, Ngong Deng’s journey is only beginning. With dreams of playing for top-tier clubs like Manchester City and representing his country in the World Cup, Ngong’s future shines brightly on the horizon. His story serves as a testament to the power of resilience, passion, and unwavering determination in overcoming adversity and achieving greatness on the football field
